Artist's Statement
Creating each piece and taking risks toward its completion presents a parallel to my own life's process. Just as each risk is taken toward completing a work of art, each risk in life brings me further along a personal journey. The journey creates new experiences, and the experiences create new forms. Quality is the objective.
How I Crafed My Path
Creating form out of experience is an occupation that I have always tried to pursue. I grew up in Denver, Colorado, and completed my Bachelor of Arts Degree at the University of Nothern Colorado in 1978. Soon after graduating, my passion for art and traveling led me to Florence, Italy. There I continued studio work in painting and ceramics. I also started a seven-year study of art history and painting conservation. When I returned to the States in 1987, my medium of choice switched to clay. Working with clay requires taking risks and allowing mistakes to be the impetus behind skill mastery. Yet, its mastery requires submission to nature. The malleable yet fickle nature of clay guides me along a path of handling its metaphorical stages. Timing is everything to a successful resolve of form, thus bringing forth an intrinsic tune of my nature. My forms are inspired by the rhythmical movement of gracefulness that carries a tune of peacefulness.
